MSU System Prexy enthroned Prince of Peace of Mindanao

December 12, 2006 – All roads led to Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay for it marked a new milestone in history not only for MSU-BC but to the entire Mindanao as well. MSU System President Ricardo F. De Leon was enthroned as Datu a Romapenet sa Mindanao (Prince of Peace of Mindanao) in recognition of his valuable contribution to peace building and untiring support for the development of the people of Mindanao. The enthronement ceremony was led by the Interim Sultan of Mindanao, Datu Tucan E. Dakula and the Bae Labi of Western Mindanao, Bae Sonita Manlin Mande Ryde. The said investiture and enthronement rites which was held at Buug mini-gymnasium was jampacked by a throng of prominent personalities from different places in Mindanao. Datus, Sultans, Bai Alabis graced the very historical event. Governor George T. Hofer, Congresswoman Belma A. Cabilao, Mayor Teresita P. Famor, former Vice Governor Titing Famor and some other local officials of Buug came to witness the enthronement. MSU-BC Director Sultan Taha G. Sarip spearheaded in the realization of this very significant event.

SULTAN TAHA G. SARIP: MSU-BC’s PRIDE

“A journey of a thousand miles begin in a single step. “These were the words of the first man who landed on the moon. Truly, this very same cliché applies to the journey of MSU-BC as she takes pride of her new administrator Sultan Taha Guro Sarip, who for a very short period of time, has already accomplished a lot. The following activities were undertaken by the Office of the Director with the support of the University President and other key officials of the University.
August 7, 2006, turn-over ceremony, administered by Dr. Makabangkit P. Ati the MSU Main Campus Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Consultative meetings with the faculty, staff and student leaders.
August 8, 2006, issued directives reminding faculty, staff and students particularly on their role in the observance of standing rules and policies of the University and the Unit.
August 9, 2006, reconstitution of the College Academic Planning Committee.
August 10-15, 2006, individual consultations, assessments, redirections on the proper implementation and observance of standing policies of the Unit and the University.
August 15, 2006, conference with Gen. Ben Dolorfino, J3 Southcom, Zamboanga City, (now the commander, NCR Command) during his visit at the MSU-BC Campus.
August 16, 2006, creation of the Campus Committee on Cleanliness and Beautification.
August 17, 2006, construction of new laboratory room adjacent to old buildings. Cementing of the pathway along the PTCA and Library buildings. Installation of landmarks, billboards and gate arch. Establishment/ improvement of nurseries, etc.
August 18, 2006, creation of the Campus Planning Committee.
August 29, 2006, conference with the USAID GEM Program representative, Mr. Noel Ruiz.
September 11, 2006, induction of Officers of the MSU-Buug Cocofoundation Scholars Club with Ms. Neurita Chan of UCPB-CIIF Foundation in Makati as Guest.
September 16, 2006, visit of MSU System President, Dr. Ricardo F. De Leon to MSU-Buug. Opening Program/Orientation/Overview of the MSUS Misamis Occidental- Zamboanga Peninsula Academic Growth Corridor spearheaded by the MSU Campus Planning Committee led by VP for Planning and Development Abdulah Alonto. Meeting witn Congw. Cabilao, Gov. Hofer and Mayor Famor together with other local officials for launching of the MSU-BC Academic Growth Corridor Phase II-Zamboanga Sibugay.
September 17, 2006, consultation meetings with the President. Tree planting.
October 5, 2006, conference with the Municipal IPs Organization of Buug. Conference with Congw. Cabilao where she committed the following: 1) Additional appropriation of PhP500,000.00 for the MSU-Buug gymnasium (on-going construction); 2)PhP50,000.00 share for the MSU-Buug Internet Installation; 3) Completion of the MSU-BC T.L.E. building; 4) Medicines for Medical Mission (MSU-BC IPDM); 5) Pledge support/follow-up request/ proposal of MSU-Buug for autonomy through issuance of Presidential Exec. Order.
October 28, 2006, launching of the Graduate School and Extension Programs, IPDM Center, and MSU 5-Year Strategic Plan for Misamis Occidental-Zamboanga Peninsula with MSUS President, VPAA Guro, VP for Planning & Dev’t. Staff, MSU-IPDM & Staff and other University Officials.

October 29, 2006, visited Tabina, Zamboanga del Sur together with the President, VPAA Guro, VPPD Alonto and other University Officials for the assessment on the viability of extension courses related to marine fishery and aquaculture.
October 30, 2006, conference with Congw. Cabilao and submission of the Unit’s proposal for Fiscal Autonomy to the President of the Philippines. Recognition Program for Congw. Cabilao and blessing of the MSU-BC IPDM Center.
November 3, 2006, conference with James Alih Abdul, UNMDP Act for Peace Programme, Zamboanga City.
November 7, 2006 Acquired 18 units of computers with complete accessories and PhP50,000.00 cash for Internet installation from MSU-BC Parents Teachers Community Association, Incorporated.
November 18, 2006, Acquired 10 units of computers with complete accessories from the Office of the MSU System President.November 4-25, 2006, preparation for Investiture and Enthronement of President De Leon.
November 26-29, 2006, Culture of Peace Seminar (MSU-BC IPDM).
November 28, 2006, acquired the PhP50.000.00 counterpart of Congw. Cabilao for the MSU-BC Internet installation.
November 30-December 4, 2006, Preparation for the 35th Foundation Day Anniversary Celebration and College Silver Jubilee.
December 5-7, 2006 Pahaladia 2006. Sports and Intramurals 2006. December 8, 2006, Literary and Musical Contest.
December 12, 2006, Investiture and Enthronement Ceremony. Feast for Peace.
December 13, 2006, Students, Faculty, Staff and Alumni Day. Foundation Ball and Awarding Ceremony.

University Planners visit MSU-Buug;Academic Growth Corridor launched
The University Planners from the main campus visited MSU-Buug in the morning of September 16, 2006. The group launched the Academic Growth Corridor (AGC) which is one of the imperatives of MSU Vision 2020. The University Planners who came was headed by the Vice President for Planning and Development, Engr. Abdullah Alonto. With him were the University Consultant for Planning, Dr. Mario Rodriguez and training officer Ahmad Solaiman.Dr. Mario Rodriguez gave the overview on the strategic planning of the concept in the development of the Academic Growth Corridor. The AGC, according to him, consisted of four academic dimensions. These are: 1) Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Maguindanao and General Santos AGC. Under this corridor are MSU-Naawan, MSU-Maigo, Malabang Community College, MSU- Maguindanao and MSU-General Santos; 2.) MisamisOccidental - Zamboanga Peninsula AGC which includes MSU-Buug and MSU-Lopez Jaena Community College; 3) Lanao del Sur and Marawi AGC. Included in this corridor are all community colleges of Lanao del Sur and MSU-Balo-i; 4) BASUTA AGC which is implemented by MSU-Sulu. This corridor covers the area of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. Dr. Rodriguez likewise said that this Academic Growth Corridor is not only meant for the development of MSU branches but it is for the educational, social and cultural upliftment of the entire MSU System. He further stressed that MSU-BC will be the mother unit of future MSU units in Zamboanga provinces. Present in the launching of the AGC were Gov. George T. Hofer and his wife, Dr. Dulce Hofer, Vice-Mayor Arnold Lim, SB members Flordeliz Curiba and Allen Paderanga, the MSU-BC family headed by no less than the director, Sultan Taha G. Sarip.

MSU-BC welcomes new administrator

Sultan Taha Guro Sarip was welcomed by the MSU-Buug family as the school’s new administrator last August 7, 2007. At exactly eight o’clock in the morning, a simple yet very meaningful program was held at the PADAP Building of the High School Department. Professor Ebrahim F. Ampuan did the turning-over in behalf of Professor Mohammad Ali T. Mariga. The simple turning-over ceremony was administered by the MSU Main Campus Vice Chancellor Macabangkit P. Ati and witnessed by the MSU-Buug College faculty and staff, PTCA officials and students from the high school and college departments. The new administrator gladly accepted the responsibility entrusted to him by the MSU System and the MSU-Buug College as well. He encouraged every MSUan to do their best to have a highly and globally competitive MSU-Buug College.
